A brief history
I was born in Johannesburg on the 10th of August 1987. I spent my childhood in Joburg where I went to King Edward VII School. My father, Iain, came from KZN and went to Glenwood High School, while my mother, Di, grew up in Rhodesia.
I come from a sporting family where my first experience of sport was straight from the hospital when my mother took me to the hockey field to watch my father play. I grew up at Old Johannians Sports Club, as my parents were heavily involved in the running of the hockey section.
I attended King Edward VII School and matriculated in 2005, after school I went to England to play hockey for Eastbourne Hockey CLub and worked for the year at St Bede’s Private School. On returning to South Africa, I decided to study chiropractic At Durban University of Technology and qualified in 2014 (Dissertation). I started working at Northwood Sports Medical Centre in Durban North as a chiropractor and assisted the school sports teams at Northwood High School.
l have furthered my studies with numerous courses in patient management, pain management of patients, various strapping courses including Dynamic tape and Kinesiotape. I have been fortunate enough to be involved with numerous sporting teams; South African Women's Indoor Hockey team, Northwood 1st team Hockey, Northwood 1st team rugby, Varsity College (Durban North) Rugby (2015), Varsity College (Durban North) Hockey (2016), KZN Mens Hockey Team. I currently head up the Collegians Rugby Medical team, where I manage a multi-disciplinary team that cares for all the players.
I have been fortunate enough to treat numerous professional sportsmen through out my career; Daniel Sibbald (SA Hockey), Clinton Panther (SA Hockey), Jonty Robinson (SA Hockey), Jacques Venter (Sharks Rugby), Josh Crocker (SA Swimming), Richard Curtis (SA Hockey), Ross Hetem (SA Hockey), Hugo Scholler (Dutch u20 Rugby), Sam Christianson (SA Surfing),
I am an avid sportsman, I played hockey for KZN indoor and outdoor for numerous years, and still currently playing a high quality of premier league hockey for Riverside Sports Club in Durban North. Since moving to Durban to study, I have taken up other sports such as surfing and kite surfing, which have made me not want to leave the Durban lifestyle.
Michael's family originated from KZN and Rhodesia, Zimbabwe.
Though playing hockey together, I met Bruce Grant and over time we formed a friendship and business partnership. We have always had an idea to create a clinic that serves the greater Durban North community with any and all medical related issues, with a personal, unique and patient centred approach and thus the idea of Compass Health Centre was born.
